Had very naughty tea last night. Fresh pasta parcels with spinach and ricotta, with a sauce made with fresh cream, white wine, garlic and lemon juice, with chunks of un-dyed, smoked cod thrown in. Yuuu-um!
Paul found out yesterday that his sister Debbie had gone off and married Fergus on Saturday. They are at their holiday home in Florida with his Mum. Sounds like his Mum wasn’t even invited even though she was out there with them. And both P and his Mum have refused to tell his Dad. They assume he’ll hit the roof, but they feel it’s Debbie’s responsibility to tell him and take the shit. At least I will have the satisfaction of returning the favour and pointedly not sending a card (petty but I don’t care). She behaved like an unpleasant, spoiled little child at our wedding and he’s a total git by all the evidence, so in my opinion they richly deserve each other. Maybe I’m wrong to wash my hands of p’s siblings but to be fair he has practically nothing to do with them anyway. Life’s too short to waste on people who are impolite, disrespectful, ignorant and unpleasant. I choose to devote my time to people I care about and who care about me. That happens to include my immediate family and P’s Mum, Dad & Diane, but it does not include his siblings just because they are his siblings. And I won’t feel guilty. So there. I have some wonderful friends too who make me feel more blessed than I could possibly deserve. I’m hardly so desperate that I need to cultivate relationships with undeserving people just coz they happen to be family. Their loss.
Just been for a run with Jane & Louisa. Why does EVERYONE run faster than me?! Bah. It’s depressing. But I’ve still arranged to go for a run with them every Tuesday. Fool J

I've made fresh garlic and rosemary tear bread for tonight, lord knows what I'm cooking though, I feel positively bone idle today.

60g Butter
2 cloves garlic
75ml White wine
300ml Single cream (Think that’s right – it’s one of the tall thin tubs if you know what I mean?)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon Corn flour
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
Prawns, scallops, smoked fish all great with this. Suspect strips of ham would work v well too
Melt butter and sauté garlic gently for 2 mins. Add cream & white wine, bring to boil and cook for 3-4 mins. Add lemon juice, corn flour mixed with the water, salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Stir until thickened. Add whatever other thing you’ve chosen and heat just long enough to cook or heat through depending what it is. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve over pasta, spaghetti, ...
Decadent, delicious and easy! Yum, the thought of your bread has set my mouth watering too! As an aside, guess what we had for tea last night? 'Proper' chips, fishfingers and peas. You can't be grown-up all the time ;-)
